Communicating the Project's Relationship to MakeWay

Step 1: Understand the legal requirements

Projects must always disclose their relationship with MakeWay. This is a requirement set by the CRA to ensure that the public and donors understand that:

  • Projects are a part of MakeWay.
  • MakeWay is the legal recipient of all donations.
  • MakeWay is responsible for the underlying charitable activity.

Projects must be transparent about their relationship with MakeWay on all public materials, including:

  • Fundraising documents, e.g. grant proposals and reports, appeals for individual donations, and stewardship letters.
  • Publications, e.g. research reports, books, videos, DVDs, curriculum, and conference materials.
  • Websites.
  • Newsletters or e-newsletters.
  • Work-related social media.
  • Any other public-facing materials.
Step 3: Work with the Support Team

Projects must submit all public materials to their Support Team for a compliance review. This review ensure that all materials accurately represent the Project's relationship to MakeWay.

Allow a minimum turn-around time of 5 business days for the Marketing & Communications Specialist to review the materials. A longer lead time is appreciated if those materials are complicated or lengthy.
