Ontario Proof of Vaccination
As of September 22, 2021, the Government of Ontario is requiring proof of vaccination for specific events and activities. Full details are available online, and you can reach out to your Specialist for additional questions.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The government app is not yet available and may not be available until October 22. MakeWay will continue to monitor and inform you when it is available.
Below is a summary of our requirements.
Ontario's proof of vaccination is not applicable to entering any events for work purposes (i.e. MakeWay staff are not required to provide proof of vaccination to enter an event for work). In addition, the proof of vaccination does not apply to outdoor events, except night clubs.
The Ontario proof of vaccination focuses on higher-risk indoor public settings. A handful of indoor MakeWay events will be subject to the regulations, including:
- Indoor Concerts, music festivals, theatres and cinemas
- Indoor meetings in venues like conference and convention center
At these type of events, the regulations requires MakeWay to verify members of the public are vaccinated before they enter events. In some cases, we may be able to delegate the responsibility of verification to the venue in a rental or service agreement.
Until the app is available on October 22, proof of vaccination will be via vaccination receipt and identification.
- Photo identification is not required. Any ID with name and date of birth is acceptable.
- Alternatives to the receipt are available to those vaccinated outside Ontario.
Staff organizing activities covered by the regulations will need to be familiar with:
- The types of proof of vaccination and negative antigen test accepted, including for people vaccinated outside Ontario
- ID requirements
It is is also important to note that in Ontario there are two valid medical exemptions: 1) an allergic reaction or 2) if an individual suffered myocarditis or pericarditis after the first dose. In order for the exemption, the individual must present ID and a written document from a doctor.
For the period between September 22 and October 12, 2021, people attending regulated meeting or event spaces will be able to provide a negative rapid antigen COVID-19 test from no more than 48 hours before the event as an alternative to proof of vaccination. These rapid antigen tests would have to be privately purchased.
All other regulations, such as the mask mandate, remain in effect.
